Temperate Glasshouses in South Yorkshire
The Winter Gardens building is located at the east end of the city centre, just east of the Town Hall.
The building was officially opened by HM Queen Elizabeth II, on the 22nd of May 2003.
It is one of the largest temperate glasshouses to be built in the UK during the last hundred years
The structure is also the largest urban glasshouse in Europe.
The building contains over 2,000 plants from around the world.
The central development is part of the £120 million Heart of the City regeneration project. This project includes the Peace Gardens and the Millennium Galleries.
The glasshouses are 70 metres long and 21 metres high.
