International, open, ideas design competition to design a tall emblem structure
11th prestigious ThyssenKrupp Elevator Award which is held in collaboration with Dubai Municipality and under the auspices of the UIA. This Competition aims to foster creative, yet pragmatic new visions, for developing a tall emblem structure, within a dedicated site in Dubai.
The winning design may be built by the Dubai Municipality subject to the approval and adoption of H.H. the ruler of Dubai.
TALL EMBLEM STRUCTURE FOR ZA’ABEEL PARK IN DUBAI
Dubai Municipality and ThyssenKrupp Elevator announce the launch of a International, open, single stage, public, anonymous, preliminary design competition for the conception of a tall emblem structure, to promote the new face of Dubai.
In conformity with the UIA-UNESCO regulations for international competitions, the competition has been approved by the UIA.
Located within the Za’abeel Park the structure should promote tourism, have a unique state-of-the-art design, include cultural and leisure activities, conference and theatre facilities. Local climatic conditions should be taken into account, as well as urban and landscape aspects, passive construction principles should be applied and the structure should respond to the seismic constraints of the region.
The following prizes will be awarded: a first prize of 100 000US $, a second of 50 000US $ in addition to three prizes of 20 000 US $ each.
JURY The international jury is composed of: H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Municipality; H.E. Hussein Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality; Javier del Pozo Portillo, Chairman of ThyssenKrupp Elevator Business Unit, Southern Europe, Africa & Middle East and the following architects: Jaime Duró y Pifarre, former President of the International Union of architects, Rafael de la Hoz Castanys, Dalila ElKerdany, Nabil Gholam, Zaha Hadid, Imad Hassan, Josep Luis Mateo, Tarek Naga, Antonio Ortíz García, Alfonso Vegara, Cino Zucchi.
SCHEDULE Registration deadline: 31 August 2008 Deadline for dispatch of entries: 31 January 2009 Deadline for reception of entries by the organisers: 28 February 2009 Announcement of the results and official awards ceremony in Dubai: May 2009
PARTICIPATION The competition is open to architects and teams of architects worldwide who have the right to practice the profession in their countries. Registration will be carried out on-line at a dedicated web site: www.thyssenkrupp-elevator-architecture.com There is no registration fee. The competition language is English.
