Housing Design Awards – Shortlist News
2009’s Housing Design Awards have shortlisted 38 developments for awards, to be made on 16 July in the Banqueting House in London’s Whitehall.
The annual Awards, running since 1949, celebrate the best design and planning of new homes in England. They are sponsored by the Department for Communities and Local Government and are in partnership with the Homes and Communities Agency, RIBA, Royal Town Planning Institute and NHBC with support from CABE. Each party fields one or more judges who visit the shortlisted schemes.
There are two categories of winner: ‘Project’ (for schemes with planning but not yet fully built out and occupied) and ‘Completed’. This year the judges have shortlisted 18 Projects and 21 Completed schemes, all of which will feature in the “Exhibition of Excellence” which will make a national tour beginning at the RIBA on 20 July.
About one third of this shortlist will be presented with an Award at the Banqueting House on Thursday 16 July. The lunchtime ceremony will be led by HCA Chairman Sir Robert Napier, with presentations by a CLG minister, HCA Chief Executive Sir Bob Kerslake, RIBA President Sunand Prasad, RTPI Senior Vice President Ann Skippers and NHBC Chief Executive Imtiaz Farookhi.
A special award will be made for the scheme which judges felt addressed issues facing house building in future generations, the Future Proof Award. There will al so be an Overall Winner.
