Office building for Voest Alpine in Linz, Austria
The new sales and financial center and the existing “Blue Tower” together form the portal to the site of voestalpine: two mutually complementary structures as a symbolic representation of the complementary units of voestalpine.
The new building and the existing tower are in a dialogue that clearly defines the opposite of to the vertical element of the blue tower to the horizontal shape of the new sales and financial center (VFZ). The wide overhang of the head of VFZ symbolizes the industrial ambitious claim of modern innovative and efficient company.
The forecourt
A gently sloping surface leading to the entrances. Large-sized concrete elements – colored sand-blasted in situ concrete – form the surface. LED floor lights are integrated into the surface.
The garden
Between the stock, the new visitor center and the VFZ spans a generous open space, as its backdrop, the curved facade of the VFZ serves. This covers the spectrum from the portal to the steel road up to the steel world. Thus, even with such a representative component is included in the ensemble.
At the same time the VFZ defines the northern border of the area by voestalpine.
This spacious garden deck creates a differentiated-designed outdoor area for employees and visitors of the company. A sequence of green fields, and paved areas is structured by accesses to the park deck
The new sales and financial center
The gently sloping surface under the canopy leads into the spacious lobby.
The building is divided in cross-section into 3 zones: the lateral zones of the offices, the central zone, in which alternate funding areas (conference, archive, coffee and chill out areas, copy areas) with all the shells open atriums.
Each atrium is closed by a glass roof to the outside. Integrated into the roof opening wing a good ventilation of the areas to allow Vertical) (chimney effect.
The atriums are landscaped and provide space for outdoor transition areas dar. This can achieve a high proportion of office imaging areas.
The conference area on the roof
The conference area is in a very prominent position in the 4th Floor housed. This is independent from the other disclosures vertical jump accessible from the foyer with a lift.
The situation in the roof area provides an overview of the entire area. An additional terrace following the meeting rooms, conference extends the range in the form of a Bélvédère.
All other roof surfaces are extensively planted.
The construction
The building is designed as a steel structure: The metal structure is visible everywhere.
Large plateaus and maximum flexibility. The steel construction allows a maximum of flexibility and large plateau.
The facade
The manual open able facade components allow to users natural ventilation.
Integrated into the facade are elements made of expanded metal to control. These sliding elements can be individually moved before the glazed areas of a room and control so the light input.
The facade allows a delicate and sensitive handling of natural light contribution of each individual office.
