REDUKT PURA: Two Tiny House Implementations in Austria and Berlin

PURA is a model of a mobile tiny house by Polish manufacturer REDUKT. Two implementations with dark timber cladding, extensive glazing, and integrated terraces – in southern Austria and on the Wannsee canal in Berlin – demonstrate how the compact design adapts to different landscape contexts while maintaining full living function.

Austria: dark timber form on sloped terrain

A plot in southern Austria offered spectacular views across gently rolling landscape but presented practical challenges. Traditional masonry construction on sloped terrain would require lengthy permitting, costly infrastructure, and significant site modification. Instead, the owners chose a mobile home REDUKT PURA with full off-grid package, deployable quickly with minimal disturbance to the hillside topography.

The architecture responds to context through scale, form, and material. The compact volume with pitched roof aligns with traditional roof lines in the neighborhood and proportions of surrounding farm buildings. Dark timber cladding reduces visual contrast with forest and hillside vegetation. Large south-facing glazing provides views across the rolling terrain, while the terrace extends usable floor area outdoors. The house sits on the slope with minimal site modification.

Berlin-Wannsee: plot between canal and forest

The dwelling sits on a plot between the canal and dense vegetation. The client, a landscape designer, sought recreational space for a four-person family with more direct nature access than a typical urban apartment while maintaining everyday comfort.

Wide double doors connect the living room to an expansive terrace toward the water. Smaller windows on two sides provide cross-ventilation and daylight at different times. The house maintains weather protection while providing access to the canal and forest context.

Interior layout and materials

In both implementations, the PURA model offers the same compact interior layout within approximately 16.5 m²: a tall living room with large glazing and terrace access, a full-size kitchen, a compact bathroom and a sleeping loft above, plus a utility room under the mezzanine. The pitched roof creates ceiling height over the living area, allowing light penetration and visual spaciousness, while the loft provides a dedicated sleeping zone for two people.

Natural materials – poplar plywood walls and oak flooring – are combined with large window openings to visually extend the limited floor area. Custom plywood furniture provides storage and spatial organization, supporting everyday residential use in both the Austrian and Berlin-Wannsee houses.

Off-grid systems and installations

The Austrian installation includes complete off-grid infrastructure: photovoltaic system with battery storage, 400-liter water tank with filtration, composting toilet, gas water heater, wood stove, and infrared film underfloor heating. These systems are housed in a utility room under the sleeping loft, enabling year-round habitation independent of municipal utilities.

The Berlin-Wannsee installation connects to standard infrastructure (water, sewage, electricity) while maintaining the same spatial program. It features infrared floor heating, air conditioning for year-round comfort, and additional amenities including a dishwasher.

Both installations use spruce framing with sheep’s wool insulation for thermal and acoustic performance.

Technical specifications:

  • Dimensions: approx. 6.6 × 2.5 m
  • Construction: Spruce frame, sheep’s wool insulation
  • Exterior: Dark timber cladding, metal roof
  • Interior finish: Poplar plywood, oak flooring
  • Austria: Full off-grid (PV + battery, water tank, composting toilet, gas water heater, wood stove, infrared heating)
  • Berlin-Wannsee: Grid-connected (infrared heating, air conditioning, dishwasher, standard sewage)
  • Features: Full kitchen, bathroom, sleeping loft, utility room
  • Access to mezzanine: Austria – stairs; Berlin-Wannsee – ladder (PURA is available in both configurations)

Program and footprint

Within a 6.6 × 2.5 m footprint, PURA accommodates a full set of living spaces. The mobile construction allows deployment on sites where traditional building would require extensive permitting or infrastructure development.

The compact footprint and trailer-mounted chassis provide mobility, though both documented installations function as stationary houses. The two implementations demonstrate the design’s adaptability: the Austrian installation addresses sloped terrain and remote location challenges with complete off-grid capability, while the Berlin-Wannsee version provides grid-connected waterfront recreation. In both cases, the limited floor area enables placement where conventional construction would be impractical or legally complex, providing full residential function on sites typically unavailable for permanent development.
