A core zone of some 70 hectares offers inner-city facilities, primarily shipping-related services and office buildings. The two landmark high-rises in the west and east are linked by a pedestrian precinct, surrounded by 4-storey podiums with retail outlets, entertainment, and bars and restaurants. However, it also provides access to the residential and office towers, which very much give the core zone a calm rhythm and its face.

Steven Holl Architects has been selected to design the new library at the Queens West Development at Hunters Point. This new library will provide state-of-the-art library services to the community, as well as offer a space for community programming.

Concrete House II, Madrid, central Spain – new images

The architecture studio A-cero presents one of its last works about a big single-family house. It takes place in the outskirts of Madrid on a 5000m2 plot. It is a single storey building and it has a 1.600 m2 built surface.

New Domino Brooklyn, New York City, NY, USA

Rafael Viñoly Architects PC’s design for the New Domino celebrated a major milestone today, as the project’s proposed zoning change was approved by the City Council of New York City. This vote allows the development, which will create 660 units of affordable housing and four acres of public park space including a riverfront esplanade along the East River in Brooklyn, to move forward.

A previous residential client commissioned the design of a new Oral Surgery Clinic for his growing private practice. The ambulatory clinic is based within an existing medical office park in Silicon Valley and involves both a complete site and interior renovation.

Rafael Viñoly Architects is proud to announce the groundbreaking ceremonies for the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States, situated on the campus of the University of Massachusetts Boston. This historic project will stand beside the existing John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, encouraging visitors to explore both buildings.

Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland, USA

MOCA Cleveland is a 34,000 ft2 non-collecting contemporary art museum designed to serve as a catalyst for creativity and growth in a cosmopolitan Cleveland neighborhood, which is home to one of the country’s largest concentrations of cultural, educational and medical institutions. Flexibility is key to enable the museum to display works in a great variety of media and genres.

Nicknamed “Mountain Crystal”, the innovative building generates over 90 percent of its energy itself. It is scheduled to start receiving guests normally in March 2010 and will continue to serve ETH Zurich as a research object in power and building service engineering.

The Lindholm area, dominated by former industrial buildings and shipyards, has been transformed in a typical manner into large-scale business districts and open plazas – here you will find company headquarters, a science park, a college etc. The master plan proposal introduces a humane scale and a different architecture focusing on the small-scale urban spaces.

Sutherland Hussey Architects have recently been awarded planning permission to construct a new boathouse on the shores of Loch Ard near Aberfoyle. Set in the breathtaking Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, a space for meditation will hover above the loch to catch the stunning westerly views.

This center dedicated to Hamsun is located above the Arctic Circle near the village of Presteid of Hamarøy near the farm where the writer grew up. The 2700-sqm building includes exhibition areas, a library and reading room, a café, and an auditorium equipped with the latest film projection equipment.
