International engineer Web Structures has completed a complex three-year project for holiday resort group Four Seasons at its luxury new development in Seychelles. Web Structures’ team of Singapore-based engineers used its expertise on the island of Mahe, working to protect and preserve the fragile local environment.

The development is in a sensitive site at Petite Anse, stretching from a coral beach to tropical hillsides and rock outcrops.

Dr Hossein Rezai-Jorabi, Web Structures group director, said: “This has been a very challenging project for us. It is a very delicate site and our approach throughout has been one of sensitive care for the natural environment.

“We have also worked very closely with the local authorities in Seychelles throughout the project.

“Our aim throughout has been to minimise disturbance to the natural beauty and the ecologic al balance of the site and we believe we have achieved those aims.”

The project included the creation of approximately 10km of access roads and tracks. Detailed analysis had to be carried out in order to minimise the “cut-and-fill” earthwork.

Work was carried out to ensure the development does not adversely affect the natural flow of rain waters downhill slopes.

An existing lake on site has been rejuvenated and used as a natural retention pond to retain and filter rainwater before the overflow is allowed to enter the ocean.

Individual structures have been painstakingly located and then adjusted at micro level to ensure existing rock outcrops and vegetation are least disturbed.
