Blackwood Bus Station, Wales : Caerphilly Building
Contemporary Welsh Development – design by various architects
4 Oct 2008
Blackwood Bus Station Building
Location: Caerphilly County
2007
Architect: Geraint Jones, Building Consultancy, Caerphilly County Borough Council
This is a fairly simple building design by a borough council architects department. The roofline is interesting and the building is fairly well articulated but the UK does not have a strong tradition (these days) of high quality council architecture departments. The best known council architects of recent decades are Hampshrie county Council Architects in the south of England, thoguh back in the 1960 the Greater London Council (GLC) was well known as a place for innovative young architects could cut their teeth.
Winner of:
CLAW Building of the Year 2007 (CLAW = Consortium of Local Authorities in Wales)
