The Loft on Bufalini Street in Florence, in the very historical centre of the city, is the result of the restoration of an ex-music hall.
Design: NIO architecten. The project for the extension of the Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci, designed by architect Maurice Nio, is part of a mostly industrial area, economically vibrant but void of any noteworthy architecture.

This Tuscan property design by Architettura Matassonin is organized around a central courtyard with the function of home life’s core; this compositional logic allows a visual reciprocity between the different environments.
The piazza which lies at the heart of the project sits astride two pre-existing axial routes, and alongside six storey tenement style housing with shops built there in the 1950s and 60s. the intervention by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners (RSHP) takes the form of an ensemble of buildings.

The house is built around a patio on which are opened the most important environments of the living area; the transparency of the walls allows the visual perception as an extension of interior space.
