RIBA Comment:
‘What is really remarkable about this university art gallery is that the more one looks, the better it gets. That is the sign of complete assurance and maturity. What most artists do is to make simple things complex; great artists make complex things appear simple. This is one of the rare buildings that fits that definition of greatness’.
Clients’ Comment:
The Lewis Glucksman Gallery is a spectacular addition to UCC’s Lower Grounds, providing a striking landmark at the main entrance to the historic campus. It has also quickly become an integral part of the University landscape and intermingles the built and natural environment in a thoughtful structure that allows for a unique sense of flow between exterior and interior spaces. This sense of movement and openness enhances the gallery experience for our visitors as it guides them around the building in an intuitive way.
The raw grace of the Glucksman’s architecture provides a generous setting for the presentation of art, an enormous achievement on the part of the architects and one acknowledged by artists, curators and visitors alike. The architects have created a confident space that opens up the world of art, while providing the University with an exceptional building that inspires and encourages visitors to the Glucksman.
