Idea:

The intention of the task is to merge a sports hall and a leisure center together on a very long and narrow plot. The building is being built in a beautiful and well-established residential area with large detached buildings.

The establishment of a traditional hall as a building body and a separate box for the leisure center on 1-2 floors is foreign to the area. Volume studies clarified the need to shape the buildings to the context and in through the project create a new building typology, which shows the area a special respect.

Flat roofs are replaced with distinctive roof shapes and the connection between the two institutions is cultivated to signal community and intensify the synergy on site. The roof shapes create spaces with varying ceiling heights and allow for the establishment of lofts and inserted decks.

The villa as a type forms the basis for the design, as different ´house types´ are interpreted as villas with special technical, acoustic or light qualities depending on function. Elements such as hall, dining room, workshop, terrace, backyard, bay window, twig, loft and chimney are translated into a total building volume that intertwines with the southern garden and creates niches and spaces between outside and inside.
