Our Vision
The vision is to take advantage of voids and pockets between buildings in creating modern spaces for different activities that attract people to come and experience, and these spaces also reduce the impact of heat islands effect, where people’s activities outdoor contribute to reduced use of A.C units while reducing heat emissions from surface Roads.
Green Plaza successfully addresses not only to the client’s demands on creating a activities places, but also to the tremendous opportunity to re-invent the contemporary pedestrian street. The Green Plaza operating as an urban component to connect with different plots and programs, by doing so this inner space propels the flow of people, program and activity needed to activate the entire site.
URBAN Approach
The architecture that is strategically placed along the boulevard generates a vertical impression with a deep perspective, inviting the visitor to come, experience and stay. Green Plaza helps to create “a sense of place”, it offers a comfortable place to sit and gather while creating a unique image for the neighborhood. It promotes sustainability through minimizing heat islands and responding to climatic demands, and is capable of being maintained without excessive costs.
The proposal contributes to reducing the heat urban islands effect, as it works to reduce temperatures in the areas between buildings, not by providing more shade ratios and increasing air movement, which moistens the climate only, but also by reducing the rate of use of A.C units and replacing street surfaces that It absorbs heat to another materials that reflect the daylight, all of this is expected to contribute to lowering temperatures by between (5 : 7) c.
The recurrence of the proposal in all voids and unoccupied pockets between buildings in the city of Abu Dhabi is able to contribute to a significant reduction in temperature rates, and then reduce the impact of urban heat islands, and it is worth noting that the proposal is repeatable with simple modifications to make it suitable for different areas while maintaining To achieve its goals.
Design Approach
Designing for Optimal Micro-climate
The outdoor micro-climate is as important as the indoor climate. we have utilized careful site analysis and local thermal studies to propose a dynamic and coherent design, with a streetscape designed for comfort, micro-climate and the human scale.
The strategy is to block direct daylight and guide it around the inner urban spaces creating sheltered clear areas on the plaza for activities and to minimize urban heat island effect.
Thoughtful design of the public realm can create thermally comfortable, attractive and more healthy and sustainable urban environments using architecture, planning and landscape design to enhance positive natural and man-made features.
Design process go through many steps, all those steps seek to create inner space has thermal comfort for activities and to minimize Urban heat island, and inspiration from Islamic architecture ideas and U.A.E culture.
